Plot

Assault on Precinct 13 – 2005

The movie starts with officer Roenick in talks with a drug dealer during an undercover operation. While trying to get the drug lord to seal the deal his partner plays the bored girl in the same room. At one point he calls in his other partner Tony, who gets recognized by the accomplice that is accompanying the dealer. In the chase that follows Roenick's partners get killed but Roenick manages to shoot and kill the dealer. After that, he mourns over the loss of his partners.

From there we leap 8 months forward in time, where we see a Roenick still having a hard time getting over the events that happened during the drug bust. He developed a drinking habit to drown his belief that he is somehow responsible for them getting killed. He is on route to the old Precinct 13 and through the car radio we learn about a heavy snowstorm that is on its way to Detroit. The precinct is located in an almost empty area in the city and is due for closure the following day. With this premise, the regular police force working there is leaving for home and all that remain are officer Roenick and two others, a fellow cop and a female secretary.

At the same time drug baron Marion Bishop meets with a guy at a church, and gives him no for an answer. The guy does not accept this and pulls out a gun but Bishop is faster and kills him with a knife. On his way out, cops are waiting for him so he quickly gets back into the church where he fires a shot from the gun that belonged to the guy he just knifed, in order to create a panic to slow down his pursuers, enabling him to escape through the back. Nevertheless, he is apprehended by the cops.
The guy he knifed turns out to be a member of a team headed by Marcus Duvall, head of Special Forces. Duvall does not like the current conditions and is planning on doing away with Bishop at a later time. Bishop realizes this and through his lawyer attempts to get transferred somewhere else as fast as he can.

The bus carrying inmates, of which Bishop was the last to join, is being re-routed to Precinct 13 because the roads are blocked and the storm has reached Detroit. Officers Rosen and Halloway change the destination and bring the 5 inmates to their temporary location where they decide to wait for the storm to pass. Roenick isn't crazy about the idea, but goes along. Nobody noticed the car that has been following the bus that carried the inmates.

While the crew at the precinct prepares to celebrate the end of the year, two men come in from the back entrance, masked and armed with guns carrying silencers. Rosen coming down and spotting the two is the first to die as they shoot him, but with his last breath he manages to fire off a shot alerting the rest. The men make a run for it. Halloway giving chase gets shot, but Roenick manages to get him back in to the precinct where he learns of Rosen's death.

While attending to Halloway’s wounds, they learn that the phones are out and that there is no reception on the cell phones, they assume due to the extreme weather conditions. When they learn Radios don't work either, they come to the conclusion that they have been cut off. Outside they spot more masked men and they realize they belong to Bishop's group and have arrived to free him.

During an attempt to get out Roenick kills one of the masked men and takes a police badge from him. After showing it inside, Bishop discloses the fact that he partnered with a fellow cop named Marcus Duvall.  Realizing the attackers outside are cops that have come not to free Bishop but to kill them all, heads back to the others, at the same time as Duvall arrives at the scene accompanied by another group of attackers.

What follows are the cops and inmates facing a common enemy and so they team up in what basically is one big shootout throughout the movie. Where in the end Bishop and Roenick face off with Duvall.
